I really have no idea as how to start this post. So let me ramble.
We took off Friday morning later than expected. The Austin area is roughly three and half hours away from Dallas, so in order to drive and float the river…we had to make good time.
The drive was pleasant. We talked and laughed a lot. I listened to her man drama, baby daddy drama, and stories of our kids. I tried to have a sing along; however she isn’t the music connoisseur like I am. So it played as background music as we chatted and I teased.
She agreed to my one little detour… it was to eat a late lunch in the self-proclaimed Texas BBQ capital, Lockhart. This town was showcased on the Food channel and is home to a few very old BBQ joints that serve slow smoked meat without sauce straight up on butcher paper. Our plan was to sample two different places. That was a bust. Let me just say Kreuz Market has the best sausage a man has ever had. Was like a marshmallows…just dissolved in my mouth. Needless to say we were full after that and agreed to press on to the river.
We got to the river around 4pm on Friday. This really limited the amount of time we could float on the river as it is a float…which equates to: grab a few beers, plop your arse in a tube, and enjoy the cool water for two hours. This river is popular state wide for tube floating and drinking a lot. We floated leisurely and chatted with others…I was still keeping it platonic even though I changed into my suit right there in the truck…a voyeur? Nah…just in a hurry to get in the water.
After the float we made our way back to Austin to check into the hotel. She did really well in choosing the hotel. It was just south of the city and very close to 6th street.
As we got into the room we both flopped on the bed. The sun and alcohol depleted us just a bit…just a enough to encourage a brief nap. Yeah, right. We lay on the bed for about 10 minutes before she nuzzled up into the spot. That spot where a woman just fits…then there was a kiss…another kiss…then well you can use your imagination for the rest.
Later that evening we got dressed and headed to the infamous 6th street. This was an absolute blast!! It was like a huge street party. They close the street down to cars and you can just bar hop and find all types of diverse people to watch and interact with. It was like a kid in a candy store. Austin is full of gorgeous women and since I am single I did my fair share of flirting that night…Yes I was with someone; however technically we are both single, plus she didn’t want to dance and I did. It was all innocent… I still bailed her out when she got attention from those undesired… and the body shots were purchased for that soon to be bride just to see that bartender do her amazing gymnast move (good to see all those gymnastics lessons in action). As the night/morning came to a close we made it back to our hotel room.
After a quick shower we ended up back in the bed…to sleep….well not so much. Let’s just say we work well together…it was fun…the balcony made me nervous; however the rum gave me some courage. LOL. We fell asleep with her saying she would wake me in two hours for another round….I like a woman who goes after what she wants. Needless to say that wakeup call never occurred.
We got up later than expected, yet the river pull was strong and we went to float again. The river is meant to float together or in a group. I tried, maybe too hard, to ensure that we weren’t acting all coupled up. I wasn’t sure what she expected from me on the river; however I was enjoying the scenery and the freedom. Bad or Good…I was enjoying the day (I mean how can you not enjoy having a water fight with a sassy little seven year old girl…made me miss my babies).
We headed home around 4pm and the ride was quicker and talks were not so energetic (tired?). We both really want to head up a group camping trip late next month or early Aug to do much of the same activities.
Overall the weekend was enjoyable. I don’t feel as guilty as I thought I would. That is a bit bothersome. I feel like I am becoming a bit freer than I have ever been. Goes against my core or at least what I thought was my core. A love connection wasn’t made…it was a much needed break for two single parents.

Wait – what would you have to feel guilty about? Not all fun times with a single woman that you find attractive needs to be a love connection, sweets.
Nothing at all to feel guilty about. And how could she NOT want to dance?? I don’t get that. Especially when a MAN does dance? Pbbfftt.

Oh and it sounds like you had fun. Sorta. I mean you did, I get that vibe. But something else is sticking out here for me. You’re just not that into her. Yup that about covers it.

It sounds like it was a great time between two people who aren’t intending to have a future together!
And 6th street sounds great!
I am anticipating more adventures with the pool mom!!
Any plans to come to DC? We could do… coffee!!

Well, I guess I could find someone to go tubing down the Allegheny or Monogohela, but I’m afraid I might pick up some skin infection
Maybe I’ll have to go to Austin and scope out the singles scene. Glad you had a relaxing good time.
